After the qualifiers and the warm-up ties, the ICC World T20 is all set to kick off today. The first match is being played between India and New Zealand in Nagpur, and Google has commemorated the occasion with a doodle on its homepage. The Google doodle is quite simple in its design, and features two sets of Cricket bats painted in the respective team’s colors, and the World Cup in the background. Hovering the mouse over the doodle also pops up the message — ‘The Black caps take on the Men in Blue’. The Indian Cricket team led by MS Dhoni will take on Kane Williamson-led New Zealand at the Vidarbha Cricket Association Stadium in Nagpur. The Men in Blue have been in tremendous form since the Australia T20 series, and enjoyed an unbeaten run in the recently concluded Asia Cup 2016. Dhoni’s men lost a close warm-up tie against South Africa this weekend, but it turned out to be good practice for the host team. New Zealand haven’t had a lot of match practice in the run up to the tournament and are likely to take a bit of time to get used to the Indian conditions. Despite the absence of Brendon McCullum, New Zealand still boasts a strong team with the likes of Kane Williamson, Tim Southee, Corey Anderson, Martin Guptill, Ross Taylor, and Nathan McCullum among others.
This is the first time India is hosting the ICC World T20, and matches will be played in seven cities across the country. The final match on April 3, will be played at the iconic Eden Gardens in Kolkata.
