HMB global, the home of Nokia smartphones announced recently that it will be bringing the iconic Snake game to iOS and Android smartphone by making it a part of new augmented reality experience. The company is making Snake Mask and the Snake Reality world filters from the game, which will be accessible on Facebook’s camera AR platform. Users can also use these filters while making live broadcasts on the app as well.
Both filters can be accessed by going into Facebook and clicking on the camera icon at the top left corner. The Snake mask uses the front facing camera and simply works like any other filter, overlaying an animated snake on the person’s face. The Snake Reality world works in the same way, but the snake can be depicted on another person by using the rear camera. As mentioned, the new filters will be accessible on both Android and iOS smartphones, and not just on Nokia devices.
Snake was no doubt one of the most iconic mobile games ever, and the decision to turn it into AR filters is only to keep its legacy alive, while also getting the younger generation acquainted with it. In 2017, the company also launched an updated version of the game specifically for the Messenger. The game was designed for a younger and social audience, where players could share scores and compete with each other. Nokia claims that the game has gained about 121 million players around the world.

However, the new filters seem to add a whole new immersive experience to the game. Pekka Rantala, Chief Marketing Officer and Executive Vice President of HMD Global said, “Now we launch an even more immersive experience to fans by allowing them to be the snake itself and eat the apples with filters available on Facebook camera – here at HMD Global we are bringing the much-loved gaming icon to a new AR era.”
