Idea Cellular announced today that it has successfully launched VoLTE service across all of its 4G circles in India, becoming the first GSM operator to offer the services across 20 telecom circles. The company states that the service is now available in Himachal Pradesh, Odisha, Assam, North East Service Area (NESA) and Jammu & Kashmir. With the addition of these districts, Idea 4G VoLTE will be available in all the states in India, except for Delhi and Kolkata.

Through our collaboration with 10 leading device brands, which cover 75% of the smartphone market, we will cater to our growing base of VoLTE users across the country.”
Idea has partnered with leading smartphone brands In India and has already rolled out an Idea VoLTE patch for their popular smartphones. The list of brands includes Samsung, Xiaomi, Vivo, OnePlus, Nokia, Asus, Kult, Panasonic, Honor and Huawei, which cater to about 75 percent of the market. Smartphones from these brands will come embedded with the VoLTE patch in the future.
VoLTE offers high-definition voice calling at a much cheaper cost compared to 2G and 3G networks. Calls here also connect faster and are known to consume less battery on the smartphone. Idea claims that users will automatically be pushed to 2G/3G when they move out of a 4G network and will also be able to call phones and landlines on other networks using VoLTE services.
