Huawei has topped off its announcements at IFA 2018 with the latest version of its EMUI operating system, EMUI 9.0. Based on Android 9 Pie, EMUI 9.0 is expected to be launched with the Huawei Mate 20 series smartphones, which are expected to launch on October 16. However, EMUI 9.0 will roll out earlier in beta, with registrations now open for users looking to get an early taste of the latest operating system for Huawei and Honor smartphones.
Huawei claims that the latest version of its operating system for its smartphones is designed to enhance users’ quality of life. The new OS has been streamlined to reduce the number of steps a user must follow to do a particular task on the smartphone, and is also said to perform faster. Huawei claims that EMUI 9.0 offers a 12.9 percent improvement in system operation, with notable improvements in the speed of apps being launched.
With this, Huawei is also among the first smartphone manufacturers to launch an Android 9 Pie-based operating system for its smartphones, although by the time the software rolls out in stable form, other manufacturers could get on-board as well. Other key features on EMUI 9.0 include GPU Turbo 2.0, which will support more games and graphical implementations for a software-boost to graphical performance, as well as HiVision, an AR-based system which uses the camera app to identify landmarks and offer useful information on them. The new OS also implements some of Android 9 Pie‘s features, including digital well-being, the dashboard that gives users insights into app usage and time spent on their smartphones.

The phones currently compatible with the beta program are seven devices, including the Huawei P20 Pro, Huawei P20, Huawei Mate 10 Pro and Huawei Mate 10. The official roll-out of the stable version of EMUI 9.0, as well as additional features on the system, will take place with the launch of the Huawei Mate 20 in October.
