The Chinese smartphone maker is said to be working on a version of its custom software called EMUI 9.0 that will bring Android 9 Pie to Huawei and Honor devices. EMUI 9.0 is believed to be ready for an unveiling at the company’s IFA event in September. Once the software is showcased at IFA, the update will be rolled out gradually to Huawei’s smartphones. The Huawei official has further revealed that company’s flagship, the Huawei P20 series, will be the first to get the taste of Android 9 Pie in September. It is not clear whether the update will begin rolling out immediately after company’s IFA event or at a later stage. The Huawei P20 series will be followed by company’s Mate series, which could mean the Mate 10 series followed by the Mate 9 series.
This new set of details from South African website MyBroadband does not offer any timeline as to when the update will arrive for these devices. There is no word on when the update will be pushed to other smartphones from the company, but it could arrive before the end of this year.
Huawei has plenty of smartphones powered by company’s Kirin 970 CPU in both Huawei and Honor brands. Since it pushed GPU Turbo update to all of its devices, there is a good chance that EMUI 9.0 will be released to all major devices as well. Earlier, it was reported that Honor 10 and Honor View 10 will also be updated to Android 9 Pie.
