IFA 2018 Technology show is upon us right now and we’re getting a look at some really exciting products in pretty much every category. In the television department, one of the most interesting products to be unveiled is LG’s new 88-inch 8K OLED TV. This will be the world’s first commercial 8K OLED TV, which will carry a resolution of the 7680 x 4320 pixels. LG claims that the TV has over 33 million self-emitting pixels to produce an unparalleled contrast ratio and true blacks.
Like many others, LG also believes OLED and 8K to be the future of television. Even with 8K resolution being in its initial stages, the company claims the format to grow more than 5 million units by 2022. On the flipside, LG also states the demand for OLEDs to double in 2018, reaching over 9 million units by 2022. So being the first to adapt and innovate with the two technologies will help LG maintain its edge over competition.
Brian Kwon president of LG Home Entertainment Company stated in press release saying, “LG’s first 8K OLED TV is the pinnacle of technological achievement and the next evolutionary step in display technology,” further adding, “4K OLED played a major role in reshaping TV industry and LG is confident that 8K OLED will do the same.” Other specifications of the TV aren’t mentioned, but LG is expected to reveal more information at its keynote speech on August 31.
