The 2018 edition of India Mobile Congress kicked off today in New Delhi with focus on 5G for the country by 2020. The chairman Reliance Jio, Mukesh Ambani on stage with union ministers Ravi Shankar Prasad and Manoj Sinha said that he believes India will be fully covered 4G by 2020 and should be ready for 5G as well. India has witnessed world’s fastest transition from 2G/3G to 4G in less than two years, shared Ambani. In the past eight months, as many as 50 million villagers have got affordable smartphones, and the mobile broadband penetration in India has taken the country from 155th rank to number 1 nation. “India has moved from 155th rank in mobile broadband penetration to being the number 1 nation in mobile data consumption in the world in less than two years,” said Ambani during Indian Mobile Congress 2018 inauguration speech.
While the ‘Digital Connectivity Revolution’ initiatives are expected to reach rural India more comprehensively, Ambani believes that every phone in India will be a 4G enabled and every customer will have access to 4G connectivity by 2020.
Reliance Jio has seen unprecedented growth since its inception in 2016. The company recently shared that it has reached 250 million plus subscriber base milestone as well.
Ambani during his speech at IMC 2018 said that Jio is now aiming to take the digital drive to the villages of India with JioPhone.

The company is showcasing 5G capabilities at India Mobile Congress and it aims to improve India’s 135th rank of fixed broadband data consumption by JioGigaFiber to top three nations in few years.
