It can be understood as a toned down version of the main YouTube service, albeit one that allows you more control over data usage. As part of the expansion, YouTube Go has been added with a handful of new features. The app now has a few design changes to make the new features stand out.
YouTube Go now supports high-quality videos. You can now download, stream, and share videos in high quality. Earlier you could only access or share videos in basic and standard quality resolutions. You can now also discover fresh content as the app will now show you personalized content. You need to simply pull the home screen to access new content. You will also be notified when new videos are uploaded from the channels you have subscribed to.
Some design changes have also been made to make it easier for you to access the ‘Share Nearby’ feature right from the homepage. The feature basically allows you to show videos to friends who are nearby using Bluetooth and BLE. The feature first locates the phone’s friend, and then uses Wi-Fi Hotspot and Wi-Fi Direct for transfer. The friend then downloads a unique decryption key from YouTube servers before the video can be played back in the app. Another big addition with today’s update is the ability to share multiple videos at once.
With YouTube Go, you get access to most of the content available on the original YouTube app. It offers content which is trending and popular in your area. The experience is available in your choice of language, making the experience more personalized. As it is solely focused on low-data coverage regions, the app offers a preview of videos, similar to the main app, so you can decide whether to watch it or download it by choosing in which quality you want to access it.
