One of the coolest automobile technologies is on its way to India. The Andhra Pradesh government on Wednesday announced an association with California-based Hyperloop Transportation Technologies (HTT) to develop India’s first Hyperloop route between Vijaywada and Amravati. This futuristic transport project is expected to create over 2,500 jobs. The project will use the Public Private Partnership (PPP) model, which is rather popular in India, and will receive funding from private investors. The one-hour journey between Vijaywada and Amravati would be completed in six minutes on the Hyperloop. “We are extremely delighted to have entered into a MoU with the Government of Andhra Pradesh to bring the HTT Hyperloop to India. In partnering with Andhra Pradesh, HTT will work with local stakeholders to build the regulatory standards necessary for safe and efficient operation,” Bibop Gresta, Chairman & Co-founder, Hyperloop Transportation Technologies, declared. Hyperloop as a concept started gaining ground in 2013 when Tesla founder Elon Musk started floating the idea of tube-based transportation. The initial concept was developed as an open-source project by engineers from SpaceX and Tesla, both companies owned by Musk. Several organizations have since then taken the concept and design, and are building features on it. Silicon Valley-based HTT is one of them, and is looking to be a fully functional auto-tech company soon. Besides India, HTT has also filed for permits in California, Abu Dhabi, and France. In Andhra Pradesh, HTT will be conducting a six-month feasibility test starting October in Phase 1 of the project. It will help HTT to identify the best possible route between the two cities. The local government believes that the project will lead to the development of various state-of-the-art technology parks and software clusters in Amaravati. It will also improve standards of living in the region. “Amaravati is a state-of-the-art city being developed in Andhra Pradesh as its de facto capital. Hyperloop is a cutting-edge technological disruption in the transportation industry,” Krishna Kishore, CEO of Andhra Pradesh Economic Development Board, stated.
