There may be dozens of smartphone manufacturers operating in India, but there s no denying that world s fastest-growing smartphone market is dominated by a handful of Chinese players. And if a new report is to be believed, that trend is only going to get stronger. Citing analysts and industry executives, ET claims that in FY’18, Indian buyers spent Rs 50,000 crore for purchasing smartphones from four big Chinese manufacturers Xiaomi, Oppo, Vivo, and Honor (owned by Huawei). Apart from these four brands, other (directly or indirectly) Chinese manufacturers like OnePlus and Infinix accounted for more than 50 percent of India s total smartphone market by sales. As per analysts, sales of smartphones from Chinese manufacturers are growing this year as well, based on the data that s available so far.
Quoting Counterpoint Research s associate director Tarun Pathak, the ET report said that top Chinese brands have access to the hardware and R&D hub in Shenzhen (China), as well as the supply chain ecosystem. “This has helped them to be innovators and to be always on top of trends, Pathak was quoted as saying.

The success of Chinese brands in India isn t exactly surprising, since they offer well-rounded smartphones (especially in the affordable and mid-range segments) with aggressive price tags when compared to other big manufacturers like Samsung. This makes them particularly appealing to the price-conscious Indian buyers, who always want smartphones that offer most bang for buck.
