Google s transparency report in January revealed that India came in second behind the US in the number of requests it had made to the company for users data. The trend hasn t changed and India is again ranked second in the search giant s latest report, having made 2,691 requests in the first half of 2013. Google reveals how the number of requests has risen by more than 100 percent in the past three years. Last year, US had made 8,438 requests while India had made 2,431 requests. These numbers have risen and off a total of nearly 23,133 requests Google received between January and June 2013, the US accounted for 10,918 followed by India who made 2,691 requests. Google on its part revealed information in 64 percent of the cases in India and rejected 36 percent of the requests.
This is also the year, when companies like Facebook, Yahoo and Apple released their first transparency reports. India again featured prominently in these reports having asked for information on 4,144 Facebook users, 2,704 Yahoo users and 65 iOS devices.
