Smartphones have become our go-to devices for everyday mundane tasks and social networking leisure. India, in particular, has seen a phenomenal rise in the smartphone culture. According to a survey by Appszoom, app downloads in India are set to sextuple, while the app industry will $4 billion next year.
In addition to the app downloads, the survey also reveals that a whopping 90 percent of users in India prefer free apps over paid ones (no surprise there!). Apart from that, made-in-India apps are gaining more popularity among users. Some of the apps that have garnered more than 100,000 downloads include Zomato, MakeMyTrip, M-indicator, OLX, Flipkart, Hike, Redbus, Freecharge, Snapdeal and more.
As for smartphones, the survey finds that there are 99 times more Android users compared to iOS users in India. Shipments in India tripled to 18 million, which is in line with earlier reports. The disparity between the number of Android and iOS users is not surprising considering there are a plethora of affordable Android smartphones available, while iPhones are still unaffordable for many.
