At an event in Mumbai, Infinix today launched a new smartphone in India called Hot S3. The budget smartphone comes with some impressive hardware, which includes a 5.6-inch 18:9 display, a high-resolution front camera and a massive 4,000mAh battery. The Infinix Hot S3 will compete with the likes of Xiaomi Redmi Y1 and Honor 9 Lite in its price range. We pitted the three smartphones against each other, and here’s how they fare.
Price and availability
The Infinix Hot S3 and Redmi Y1 are both will be offered in two variants – 3GB RAM with 32GB storage priced at Rs 8,999 and 4GB RAM with 64GB storage priced at Rs 10,999. The Hot S3 will go on sale starting February 12 on Flipkart, whereas the Redmi Y1 is available with via Amazon India.
The Honor 9 Lite, on the other hand, is offered in two variants – 3GB RAM with 32GB storage priced at Rs 10,999, and 4GB RAM with 64GB storage priced at Rs 14,999. It is available to purchase exclusively via Flipkart.
Display and chipset
The Hot S3 features a 5.65-inch HD display with 18:9 aspect ratio, and a resolution of 1440×720 pixels. The Redmi Y1, features a 5.5-inch HD display. Under the hood, both smartphones are powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 435 octa-core SoC.
The Honor 9 Lite, on the other hand, flaunts a 5.65-inch full HD+ display running at a resolution of with 1080×2160, and an 18:9 aspect ratio. It is powered by Huawei’s HiSilicon Kirin 659 octa-core SoC.
The highlight of the Infinix Hot S3 is its front camera with portrait mode. It features a 20-megapixel sensor with support for wide-angle, beautification mode and time-lapse. At the back, you also have a 13-megapixel camera with LED flash.
The Redmi Y1 is also focused on the selfie-centric audience with a 16-megapixel front camera and a 13-megapixel rear camera. The Honor 9 Lite comes with a quad camera setup – two cameras on the front, and two cameras at the back. Both sides, you have a combination of 13-megapixel primary sensor and a 2-megapixel depth sensor for DSLR-like effects.
Battery, connectivity and OS
All three smartphones come with dual SIM card slots, 4G VoLTE connectivity, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and GPS. While Infinix Hot S3 and Honor 9 Lite run on Android 8.0 Oreo OS, the Redmi Y1 runs Android Nougat OS with a layer of MIUI custom UI on top. In terms of battery capacity, the Hot S3 is armed with 4,000mAh battery, the Honor 9 Lite is armed with 3,000mAh battery, whereas the Redmi Y1 comes with a 3,080mAh battery.
