After launching the Hot 6 Pro in India last month, Infinix has launched a new sub-Rs 7,000 smartphone, called the Smart 2. The strategy here seems to be to offer a good mix of trendy features at an affordable price point. While a full-fledged review is on the way, here is my first impression of the smartphone. Let s start with the design. With the Smart 2, Infinix has stuck with a simple design. The smartphone features a 5.45-inch screen that supports HD+ (1440 x 720 pixels) resolution with an aspect ratio of 18:9. The bezels around it aren t extremely thin, but they don t hamper the way the phone looks. The screen is further protected by a glass coating, which is to be a fingerprint magnet. At the top, you can see the earpiece flanked by the front camera and a dual-LED flash. The Smart 2 also has an LED indicator to denote charging. What I like about the design is its handy built. The smartphone isn t too big, so it fits well in the hand and pocket. As an iPhone SE user, the idea of rounded corners resonates with me. That said, the smooth finish at the back offers little to no grip. Overall though, the plastic build feels pretty solid and well put together. This also includes the volume keys and the standby/power button which offer a decent click. The Infinix Smart 2 might not be the most stylish smartphone in the price range, but it does everything right in the design department.
The screen looks good, but I had to bump the brightness levels to its maximum point when using it indoors. That was mostly because of the reflective glass coating. However, it s still good to see the smartphone feature a tall screen. Infinix has also included some quick gestures such as double tap to wake and three finger swipe for screenshots.
The Infinix Smart 2 features a 13-megapixel camera at the back and an 8-megapixel camera at the front for taking selfies. Both cameras get dual-LED flash to take pictures in dark. The camera app looks pretty similar to the one seen on the Infinix Hot 6 Pro. It comes with a decent number of features including a Beauty Mode, Panorama, Night mode, and even HDR. The front camera also gets a Bokeh mode, to blur the background in portrait images. It also features face unlock, which worked pretty well the first time I tried it.
On the inside, the Infinix Smart 2 comes with a MediaTek MT6739 SoC clocked at 1.5GHz, running alongside 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage. It is coupled with the Android 8.1 Oreo operating system layered with the XOS, which looks good but comes with plenty of bloatware. The smartphone is backed by 3,050mAh battery.

Overall, the Infinix Smart 2 seems to offer a good built with a decent set of hardware for the price of Rs 5,999. The front camera looks pretty promising. And while other things worked smoothly in our initial test, an in detailed review would be able to tell us if the smartphone lives up to its competition, which is Xiaomi s formidable Redmi 5A.
