The feature is still in a testing phase, and there's no guarantee of it seeing the light of day.

Late last year, Facebook extended the ability to post Instagram Stories directly to Facebook. Which means, the Stories you uploaded on Instagram, could directly be added to the stories feature on Facebook’s primary app. This parallel extension is now reportedly coming to WhatsApp as well. Basis a TechCrunch report, Facebook is running a test to let users post their Instagram Stories directly to WhatsApp Status, a corresponding Snapchat-like feature on the messaging app. An Instagram Story posted as a WhatsApp Status also becomes encrypted like the rest of WhatsApp. Also Read - Meta adds new features in Facebook, Instagram for women's safety in India

“We are always testing ways to improve the experience on Instagram and make it easier to share any moment with the people who matter to you,” a company spokesperson told the publication.

Essentially, users get an option to tap to share to WhatsApp from the Instagram sharing screen, but they still have to press “send” in WhatsApp to post the story. A handful of users in Brazil are able to see this feature, screenshots of which reveal a direct cross-posting option on Instagram for WhatsApp, and vice-versa.

There is no doubt that this integration is done to increase the functionality and usage of a feature or a platform. Instagram is already leading the space of 24-hour diminishing posts, leaving behind the platform that originally started it. As of last November there were more than 300 million daily active users of Instagram Stories. Adding the ability to share to WhatsApp will give those Stories even more ways of generating traffic, especially in countries where WhatsApp is already hugely popular, and outstripping usage of Facebook or its Messenger app.
