Instagram will now allow its users to share stories from their friends as their own stories. This new feature comes weeks after the platform rolled out the ability for users to share Instagram posts as a story. However, one thing to note here is that Instagram will only allow sharing stories that the user has been mentioned in. This new feature is termed as Mention Sharing according to a detailed blog post by the team. The company explained that this will allow you to share a moment even if you don t get time to take your phone out during a football match or even a movie when you are with your friends and your friends have shared the moment while tagging you in their Instagram Story.
To make the process of sharing stories easier, Instagram will now add an option to add the Story that you have been mentioned in, as your own story. This option will be alongside the notification that you will get in your Direct message thread. Once you tap that option, that story will appear as a sticker on your own story and you can scale, rotate, change position, or add the usual text, doodle or even add stickers to it before adding it as your story.

The name of the original user who initially shared the Story will appear on your shared story. This will inform your friends about who what initially responsible for sharing that moment. They can tap on the username to visit the profile or the person responsible for sharing the story.
The company also pointed out that your friends need to have a public account if you want to share their stories as your Instagram story. This means that you can t share stories of your friends who have private accounts. This new feature will start rolling out both on Android and iOS platforms with version 48 of the Instagram app.
