It looks like Instagram is working on a separate app for iOS and Android platforms. This new app will be focused on e-commerce and may be known as “IG Shopping”. The app will allow users to browse through the catalog of products that a store would offer to its followers. The app will also allow users to directly make purchases from the Instagram app. The company has not issued any statement in response to the rumors about the launch of a separate app. It is unclear about when the company is planning to launch this new app on the market.

If the company goes ahead to launch this rumored app then it will not be the first where Instagram has launched its new app. Previously, the company launched IGTV to take on the likes of YouTube and Vimeo when it came to video consumption and streaming. According to a report by The Verge, the company is currently working on developing the app and it may even cancel the app before releasing it to the public. However, the report added that Instagram is confident about its position in the market to undertake “a major expansion” in the e-commerce sector.

The report also pointed out that a dedicated app would help Instagram build a “dedicated home” for people who make want to explore products on the business accounts of the stores they like. This will also add yet another stream of revenue for the company.

Instagram is likely to build and introduce more tools for merchants to help them expand their business on the platform. The platform already allows the option to companies and brands to tag separate products on photos so users can directly tap on them to shop.
