Instagram has started to roll out the redesigned ‘Explore’ tab to its users. The company had initially announced the redesign at Facebook F8, Facebook’s annual conference for developers and entrepreneurs where the company announces the major changes to its existing products or any new projects that it is working on. As previously reported, Facebook announced that Instagram will be video calling in addition to the redesigned Explore section. This redesign is aimed at making it easier for Instagram users to discover new content. The section will be more streamlined across a number of different topics and it will use AI to suggest new content to users.
The way the redesigned Explore tab looks will not be drastically different from the old design as it will be the same “tile-based” interface along with curated posts that will be based on the past behavior and interests of the user according to a report by 9to5Mac. However, the focus of the redesign will be on topic channels with topics ranging from Movies, TV Shows to Sports, and more. According to the report, Instagram will club all the curated posts in its “For You” channel in the Explore tab.

The redesign is gradually rollout out for Instagram users so if you are not able to see the new interface, don’t worry as it may take a few days for the rollout to reach your account. This comes almost a week after Instagram launched IGTV, its latest feature for long-format vertical videos. This seems to be Facebook‘s attempt to take on YouTube.
As previously reported, IGTV is built to be used just as how a smartphone user would use their smartphone which means that the videos here are full screen and vertical. The second difference is the videos here are not limited to the usual one minute and instead, they can be up to an hour long in length.
