Instagram has been on its toes lately, announcing a host of changes as it continues to be engaged in a tough battle against Snapchat. While most of the new features seem borrowed from each other, the latest Instagram update brings a feature that Snapchat doesn’t have yet. While Instagram aped the ‘Stories’ feature straight off Snapchat, the feature has grown in popularity, with many Insta users posting Stories regularly. The interest in the feature has made Instagram unveil a new feature especially for Stories users. The new feature lets users react to the story directly. While Insta posts came with the ability to comment and leave replies, there was no way a user could post anything on a Story. The latest Instagram 10.29 update is already rolling out to users and should be available to all in the next couple of days. Post the update, users need to open any Story, on the top of the feed in a circular icon. Right below the story is a new text input option along with a small camera icon on the left. Users can respond to the story by text or send an image/video using the camera icon. Also Read - How to use Snapchat's viral Cartoon 3D Style Lens
The new feature is aimed at increasing the conversations between users. The feature also gives users the functionality to add stickers or emoji to the response. It is just like creating a new Story in reply to someone else’s Story. Once a user reacts to the Story, the Instagrammer who posted it will receive a notification. The responses will be sent directly to the inbox. Along with the reply, the user can also see a sticker of the original Story, not visible to anyone else. However, taking a screenshot or replaying a response will send a notification to friends. ALSO READ: Instagram s new tools will filter spam, block offensive comments
As Instagram mentions on its blogpost, “Starting today, you can reply to stories with a photo or video. From selfies to Boomerangs, now you can be even more fun and playful when you respond to friends… Today s update is just one of the ways we re working to make Direct the best place to have fun, visual conversations with friends on Instagram.” The new feature is rolled out to both, Android and iOS users simultaneously. Additionally, the APK file for the update is also available for those who do not wish to wait till the actual update is available for their devices.
Recently, many Instagram users were affected by a bug that deleted their accounts. A lot of users began to complain of deleted accounts all of a sudden, creating a panic. However, Instagram soon clarified that the accounts are not deleted but a minor bug was causing users to get logged out of their accounts. Instagram is yet to resolve the issue and users continue to be logged out and their profiles appear as ‘disabled’ to friends and followers. As the 10.29 update comes right after the discovery of the new bug, it is unclear if the update resolves the issue along with introducing the new Stories features. Instagram is yet to comment on the issue.
