Instagram has just announced that it is bringing the shopping experience on the platform to its Stories feature. The company revealed the details of this new feature in a blog post on its press website stating that it is expanding “shopping beyond Feed”. As part of the expansion, businesses or shopping stores will be able to tag their products that they are selling in the Stories that they put. Such stories and the products as part of the Story will be marked “with a shopping bag icon”. Users will be able to check more details about the product by tapping on the icon.
The post detailed that a number of businesses ranging from Adidas to Aritzia and Louis Vuitton have already signed up for this new feature. The platform pointed out that shoppers use the platform to check the latest styles and trends. According to the company, more than 300 million users use Stories feature every day and more and more people are “finding new products from brands they love.” Considering how Instagram users use the brand pages to check the latest products, giving them the option to buy the product directly from the place where they check is likely to increase the chances of the sale of the product.

The company also points out that shopping brands are one of the “early adopters of stories” and they have been successful in creating “most viewed and engaging content” on Instagram. This new feature is coming soon allowing users to shop from “select brands”.
This news comes right after it was rumored that the company is planning to take on YouTube, and Snapchat with its long-form video content. As previously reported, Instagram is planning to launch this new feature in a “special event” on June 20. According to the details, the company will allow creators to post 4K-video content that will be played back in full screen. These videos will be available in a separate section known as the “Video hub”.
