It looks like Instagram is gearing up for a visual overhaul. According to the latest leak, Instagram developers seem to be testing a new user interface for Instagram. As part of this new UI, the platform is looking at shifting towards a “card” based design. According to the current implementation of the new UI design, the user will need to swipe from the bottom towards the top which will center the image on the screen with smaller card views on the top.
To navigate and see the other posts on the platform, users will be required to swipe from right to left to proceed to the next post or left to right to visit the previous posts. In a way, as noted by the original report, this will make posts navigation similar to the way how users navigate between the stories posted. This change was initially spotted by WABetaInfo along with some other changes in the UI. Another change that was spotted here was that developers have replaced the ‘Direct’ messages button with the ‘Profile’ button.

One thing to note here is that Instagram has not officially announced the change in UI. This likely means that the company has not finalized the design, and this may be a test UI for a small segment of users.
This report comes days after the company rolled its latest feature out for Instagram called “Close Friends”, as part of this feature, users can create a separate list of friends where they can share images and videos. This is separate from the regular stories that they post.
