The rumored Intel Core i7-8086K – a powerful new microprocessor designed as a 40th anniversary tribute to the original Intel 8086 – appears to finally be a reality. The new processor will be announced at Computex, and will go up for pre-orders on June 8, according a new report. While the new processor will of course be entirely modern in its architecture, the 8086 in the product name is a nod to the Intel 8086, which was launched in 1978. The Intel 8086 gave rise to the Intel x86 architecture, which is used till date and is by far the most successful line of processors from Intel. While the original product was a 16-bit processor, modern variants including the new Core i7-8086K are 64-bit processors. The Intel Core i7-8086K will be the fastest six-core processor built by Intel, and will be similar in performance to the Core i7-8700K, which is currently the top Core i7 option available. The clock speed is expected to be around 4.0GHz, and will allow boost overclocking up to 5.0GHz. Naturally, it’s part of the Coffee Lake-S family of processors.

The processor has reportedly been listed online on various retailers’ sites ahead of the launch, as the announcement hasn’t been made yet. Computex is scheduled to kick off on June 5, and the announcement on the processor is likely to be made then. Being a top-end processor, it could be priced at over Rs 30,000 if and when it goes on sale in India, which is around the same price as that of the Core i7-8700K online currently.
