Intel-acquired Basis has launched an advanced fitness tracker called Peak that claims to give accurate health and sleep data to its customers. The device is priced at $199.99 (approx Rs 12,400) and will be available in November through Amazon, Best Buy and its official site. With Peak, Basis has bought some smartwatch sensibilities alongside its top-notch fitness technology. Previously, Basis wearables competed with the likes of Fitbit and Nike that focused on monitoring your fitness data and sleep patterns. Now, alongside its medical data detecting capabilities, Peak introduces a notification functionality which will alert you of a text or a call. However, this feature is in the works and will be rolled out via a software upgrade sometime in November. Also Read - CES 2021: Intel unveils new processors for gaming, business and education
As far as specifications go, Peak features an aluminium body that is water-resistant (up to 5ATM), which is good enough for swimming and heavy perspiration. It has a touchscreen display screen protected by Gorilla glass. It includes a vibration motor for alerts, and a magnetic charging cradle. The company claims that the battery lasts for up to 4 days of usage. An app that is available on Android and iPhone will store all the fitness data on your smartphone.
The company has upgraded its fitness technology and claims that Peak can provide advanced sleep analysis by measuring deep/light sleep, or toss-and-turns, interruptions and sleep quality as well. It also comes with five sensors for heart rate, motion, perspiration and skin temperature measurement, while it can also automatically track activity with preinstalled BodyIQ technology for detecting walks, runs, bike rides, sleep and wake-up times.
Basis Peak is scheduled for a US release first, and will later roll out for Canada and UK customers. Peak will initially be available in two options, a matte black module with black and red-accented straps, and a brushed silver module with white and gray-accented straps.
