Google Doodle Women's Day feat

Google is marking the International Women’s Day 2018 with an interesting doodle. Google Doodle today celebrates the stories and voices of women living around the world.

Google already celebrates women such as prominent inventors, scientists, writers, artists, activists, philanthropists, and so on. With today’s interactive doodle, Google says it reached out to 12 female artists of all backgrounds to share their personal stories in the form of series of visual narratives.

The story, in particular, represents a moment, person or event that has impacted the lives of these women. “While each artist tells a unique story, the themes are universal, reminding us of how much we often have in common. We hope that the combined power of words and images help bring these stories to life in a way that invokes feelings of understanding, empathy, and spirit of the day,” Lydia Nichols & Alyssa Winans, Doodlers & IWD 2018 Project Leads said in a blog post.

Google says that it has been an incredible journey for it and that the stories in the interactive doodle depicts “candor, intimacy, and bravery of our contributors’ stories.” The doodle has been translated across 8+ languages and will act as inspiration to others.

International Women’s Day 2018 marks a significant day since it comes right on the back of global revelations about widespread sexual harassment and inequality faced by women around different fields. The recent revelations have led to women coming out with their stories as part of #MeToo campaign and creation of a Time’s Up legal defense fund that provides subsized legal support to those who have experience abuse in the workplace.

Google adds that although there are only 12 stories featured as part of its doodle today, it is spreading the message with #HerStoryOurStory hashtag. The contrubuting artists include Anna Haifisch, Chihiro Takeuchi, Estelí Meza, Francesca Sanna, Isuri, Karabo Poppy Moletsane, Kaveri Gopalakrishnan, Laerte, Philippa Rice, Saffa Khan, Tillie Walden and Tunalaya Dunn.
