iOS 8.1.1 public launch is imminent as Apple recently stopped signing iOS 8.1.1 beta 1 without releasing beta 2. This is a sign that the update could be launch soon, and as per the folks at CultofMac, the release could happen as early as today.
Being a point update, the iOS 8.1.1 shouldn’t be expected to bring any new features. iOS 8.1.1 beta 1 changelog included performance improvements to old Apple devices, so it is safe to assume the new update will also bring the same fixes.
However, its significance is much larger than that. It is likely that the update will patch the Pangu 8 jailbreak, hence if you don’t want to lose the jailbroken state of your device, don’t update it to the iOS 8.1.1 update. At this point, it is not clear if the PanguTeam has another exploit for iOS 8.1.1, hence it better if you not jump on the update as soon as it becomes available.
A Reddit user who claims to be an Apple associate said that his team was recently briefed on this matter and told that the public iOS 8.1.1 update will seed out this week.
“Just got back from work and we were told in a meeting today that a public update to 8.1.1 will be distributed within this week. Just a heads up to us Apple Associates for common troubleshooting scenarios we might come across from our customers. I advise you to update to 8.1 now before the window closes!”
So in essence, if you plan on jailbreaking your iOS device, you should do it now.
