The real cause or the extent of the problem is unknown at the moment but there are discussion threads on Apple’s support forums. Some users suggest that resetting the settings of the phone helps. You can do that by going into Settings > General > Reset > Reset All Settings. This won’t delete any data stored on the device but will reset all settings including ring tone and others to their default state.
