While, Apple still may be reeling from the iOS 6 maps gaffe, the company really needs to knuckle down, because reports are flooding in from all over the place that the anodized aluminum back of the iPhone 5 gets scratched very easily. There is an 100 page thread live on MacRumors where new iPhone 5 owners are talking about the easily scratched back. Around 45 percent of the people believe that the black model in particular is susceptible to scratches, more so than the white model. Perhaps, this could be a combination of the type of coating Apple applies on the back or just could be a case of the higher contrast on the black model making the dings more visible. Besides this, the more disturbing bit is that some people are reporting that it is being shipped with some physical damage which leads us to believe that the back casing may not even be able to handle normal shipping properly. This comes after repair firm iFixit actually praised Apple for the reparability of the iPhone 5, giving it 7 out of 10. Notably, Apple has changed the manufacturing process for the new iPhone and has adopted aluminium as the material for the construction of the phone instead of stainless-steel.
