Apple has today announced the first weekend sales numbers, and not surprisingly the new iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus are the fastest-selling iPhones in the company’s history. Apple sold a record-breaking 10 million iPhones, which also includes the four million preorders it garnered in the first 24 hours.
To put these numbers into perspective, last year Apple sold a record nine million units of the iPhone 5S and iPhone 5C on the launch weekend. A couple of years back it managed to sell five million units of the iPhone 5 and before that four million iPhone 4S units on the launch weekend.
Apple’s new iPhones are sold out across many countries, and the company is actually facing delays in shipping. The bigger iPhone 6 Plus especially is believed to be facing some production delays and is available in limited quantities. The new iPhones will go on sale in another 16 countries on September 26, and will arrive in India on October 17.
The new iPhones are differentiated by their display size — 4.7-inch and 5.5-inch — and are powered by next-generation 64-bit A8 processor paired with an M8 coprocessor and 1GB of RAM. The smartphones also feature an 8-megapixel rear camera, 1.2-megapixel Facetime camera at the front, NFC and three storage options — 16GB, 64GB and 128GB. On the software front, the two new iPhones run on iOS 8.
