A couple of days back, the Indian government announced a hike in import tax for mobile phones, video cameras, and televisions. Import duties were raised to 15 percent (up from 10 percent), which is seen as a move to curb supplies from overseas and boost the Make in India initiative. Apple has said that the revision sees an average hike of 3.5 percent across its iPhone range. The iPhone SE doesn t see a price tweak though as the device is being assembled in India by Wistron since June. Also Read - Apple CEO Tim Cook claims iOS is more secure than Android

It is worth noting that these are the official Apple India prices. These iPhones invariably are available at lower prices on e-commerce sites courtesy of various offers. While the hike in import duty affects all brands importing phones, Apple is the one most affected. As per analysts, Apple imports nearly 88 percent of its devices to India.
That said, in the premium segment a mere 3.5 percent hike is unlikely to deter iPhone buyers anyway. What are your thoughts about this price hike? Would it affect your buying decisions? Let us know in our comments section below.
