Apple will be hosting its annual iPhone event on September 12 at the newly built Steve Jobs Theater. Apple is expected to launch three iPhones this year iPhone 8, iPhone 7s and iPhone 7s Plus. A new report on Saturday stated that the iPhones would be called iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus, and iPhone Edition. Contradicting this, another report now says that the iPhone Edition will actually be called the ‘iPhone X’. According to Dutch website iCulture (via The Next Web), the anniversary edition of the iPhone will be called iPhone X. Here, ‘X’ is pronounced as ten representing the Roman alphabet. The report’s source comes from Apple itself announcing it during a meeting in Cupertino on Thursday. iPhone X somehow makes sense since it would be representing the 10th anniversary edition of the iPhone.
As for the previous report about naming it iPhone Edition, it comes from certified case makers whose products are sold at the Apple Store. The upgraded iPhones for 2017 were presumed to be called iPhone 7s and iPhone 7s Plus as per Apple’s tradition. However, the new names could be iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus. Keeping aside its name debate, the ‘iPhone X’ would undoubtedly be the highlight of the event. The iPhone X is expected to feature a radical design in comparison to the older iPhones. Apple would be infusing old and new features with a glass back on the iPhone X like the iPhone 4, and an all-display design. With the physical Touch ID possibly being absent, its placement is still highly debatable. Some suggest that the Touch ID will be embedded underneath the display, but other say it would be placed at the rear. Most recent rumors suggest that the iPhone X will come with Qi wireless charging. Apple is also said to continue using the Lightning charger for the iPhone lineup this year. Apple is also rumored to introduce a new way to invoke Siri on the iPhone X. The sleep/wake button on the iPhone X will double as a Siri launcher owing to the lack of the Touch ID.
