In the last few years IRCTC has made it a lot easier for people to book and manage their train journeys online. Now it is further improving on its services by allowing travelers to cancel tickets that have been booked at a counter at the station. While it does save the hassle of going and standing in a line again, it is worth noting that some charges will be applied based on the time of cancellation.
To cancel a ticket booked at the counter, you first have to go to the IRCTC website and find the Cancel Ticket menu under the Trains subheading. Here you need to click on the Counter Ticket option. On doing so, the website will direct you to a page, where you ll have to type in the PNR number and the train number provided on the ticket. After this, you ll have to click on submit after checking on the box that says that you have read through all the cancellation procedure and rules. On doing so, an OTP will be sent to the mobile number that was provided when booking the ticket. After typing in the OTP, the user simply needs to validate the PNR details and click on Cancel Ticket.
After cancelling the ticket, a message will be sent to the same mobile number including the PNR number and the total refund amount and its details. The refund can be collected by the user at the station where the ticket was booked or a nearby satellite PRS location.
