State-run Trending in China posted on its Facebook page, “Internet companies across China are embracing programming cheerleaders, pretty, talented girls that help create a fun work environment.” “According to the HR manager of an Internet company that hired three such cheerleaders, programmers are mostly male and terrible at socializing, and the presence of these girls have greatly improved their job efficiency and motivation,” the Facebook page description says. They say, laughter is the best medicine and these pretty, young cheerleaders are hired exactly for that. They spend most of their time in IT offices and are tasked to keep high morale while creating a fun working environment. The role of these female cheerleaders is simple, buying breakfast for the programmers, playing ping-pong, casual chitchatting and singing songs.
At this point of time, it’s not pretty clear if this trend will see any widespread acceptance, but engineers from across the globe might be keeping a close tab on future developments as things unfold.
