JioPhone 2, the second-generation smart feature phone from Reliance Jio, will go on sale today. The feature phone will be available for purchase at 12:00PM from Jio’s website, and customers will get Rs 200 cashback when they pay using Paytm. Reliance JioPhone 2 was unveiled at company’s annual general meeting as an upgraded version of its predecessor. The feature phone comes with a bigger display and features full QWERTY keyboard, which the company says has been added to facilitate faster typing experience. According to Counterpoint Research, Reliance Jio has over 30 percent market share in the feature phone segment and is estimated to have shipped over 25 million devices. With JioPhone 2, Reliance Jio is further strengthening its place in the feature phone market, and catering to a different set of audience.

Reliance JioPhone 2 features a 2.4-inch QVGA display and is accompanied by a full QWERTY keyboard. In terms of internals, it matches the original variant with 512MB RAM, 4GB internal storage and supports expandable storage up to 128GB via microSD card slot. It also features a 2-megapixel rear camera and a 0.3-megapixel camera at the front for selfies and video calling.
The JioPhone 2 runs KaiOS, an operating system that brings smartphone like applications to the feature phone. The JioPhone and JioPhone 2 support Facebook, WhatsApp, YouTube, Google Maps and Google Assistant. The ability to use WhatsApp and watch YouTube has become a big driver for the sales of this smart feature phone.

The JioPhone 2 supports 4G VoLTE, making it one of the few feature phones in the market to support 4G connectivity. It packs a 2,000mAh battery, and supports connectivity options like WiFi, Voice over Wi-Fi, GPS and Bluetooth. The JioPhone 2 is priced at Rs 2,999 and existing feature phone users can exchange their mobile phone for additional discounts.
