Apple unveiled its first wearable, the Apple Watch last month. The device won’t be launched until sometime next year. But before the last month’s unveiling event, Vogue got a chance to interview Apple’s design chief Jony Ive and talk and get an early sneak peek at the Apple Watch.

Being called his “spiritual partner” by Steve Jobs, Jony Ive is the face behind the design of several of Apple’s product lineup. Ive made the candy-colored iMac, as well as the iPhone, and iPad. In a wide-ranging interview, the two talked about Ive’s relationship with former Apple CEO Steve Jobs, and the design idea behind the Apple Watch. The interview also touches the personal part where Ive reveals that not even his wife and kids are allowed to know what he is working on.

According to Ive, the company wanted to make something personal and move the timepiece industry forward. And it took them three years in making. “You know how very often technology tends to inhibit rather than enable more nuanced, subtle communication?” he told Vogue. “This is a very big deal, I think. It’s being able to communicate in a very gentle way.”

Ive is known for paying very close attention to the detail. And that is evident in the new Apple Watch. He says the company has put a lot of attention to the neat little features like heartbeats measure, tap, and even the “click” noise that is produced while connecting bands to the Apple Watch.

It’s a fascinating interview, and you can read it in the entirety from the source link below. Also worth mentioning is that Apple chose Vogue, a fashion centric publication for the interview, instead of a technology publication. The company had also invited a lot of fashion bloggers and journalists at its event last month. It is clear that the company wants the Apple Watch to be popular among traditional watch wearers and not just the tech enthusiasts.
