Karbonn has added a new 4G-enabled smartphone to its K9 series. Called K9 Kavach 4G, the smartphone is priced at Rs 5,290 and will be available starting today both through the offline and online channels. Under the K9 series, Karbonn has two more smartphones including the K9 Smart 4G and K9 Viraat 4G. One of the key features of the smartphone is that it runs the newest Android 7.0 Nougat out-of-the-box, and is one of the few budget smartphones to pack a fingerprint sensor.
Adding to the country’s drive towards a cashless economy, the Karbonn K9 Kavach 4G comes built-in with the government’s BHIM app. Launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Unified Payments Interface (UPI)-based app allows for mobile transactions by integrating bank accounts and providing users with a unique transaction address.

The budget smartphone features a unibody metal design and comes with a dedicated fingerprint sensor at the back. It features a 5-inch HD IPS display and is powered by a 1.25GHz quad-core processor paired with 1GB of RAM and 8GB of internal storage. One can further boost the storage up to 32GB via microSD card. For photography, it is equipped with a 5-megapixel rear camera with Auto Focus and supported with flash. Up front, there is a 5-megapixel front camera with flash for brighter selfies and video calling. The Karbonn K9 Kavach 4G is fuelled by a 2,300mAh battery. Connectivity options include 4G VoLTE support, Wi-Fi b/g/n and dual-SIM support.
At the given price, the smartphone competes against the likes of Xiaomi Redmi 4A and the Coolpad Note 3 Lite which are priced at Rs 5,999 and Rs 6,999 respectively. USP of the Redmi 4A is that it houses a 3,120mAh battery, and boasts a metal unibody design. The Coolpad Note 3 Lite, on the other hand, includes twice the storage at 16GB, and has a 13-megapixel rear camera.
