Karbonn is working on yet another octa-core smartphone powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 615 chipset with true octa-core technology, which was launched in February in MWC. “We are working on a 5-inch smartphone which will be powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon chipset with eight cores,” Sudhir Hasija, chairman, Karbonn Mobiles told BGR India. This will be the company’s flagship model for the year and will feature Karbonn’s new UI that boasts new software features.
On the sidelines of the launch event where Karbonn launched the Titanium Hexa, Titanium Octane and the Titanium Octane Plus, Hasija said that the company wants to expand its octa-core smartphone portfolio by adding yet another smartphone with Snapdragon 615 octa-core chipset. This forthcoming device he said will feature a 5-inch 1080p display and run on Android 4.4.2 KitKat wrapped around Karbonn’s new UI. The phone will launch towards the end of May and will be priced at a higher price point of around Rs 20,000.
Hasija also confirmed that the company is indeed working on a dual-boot smartphone running on Windows Phone and Android OS. This device will be launched a few months from now and the price will be on the higher side. Additionally, he also mentioned that they are developing smartphones running on Windows Phone OS that will be priced around Rs 10,000.
Karbonn is eyeing to increase its annual revenue to Rs 8,000 crore in this financial year (2014-15), which is 60 percent more than its current revenue. The company is also expecting to hold 15 percent of the market share by the end of this financial year.
