Kerala floods: Airtel, Vodafone, and Idea offers free talk time, 1GB data to prepaid users in affected areas

Telecom players also announced that it is extending the payment deadline for all its postpaid customers for uninterrupted services.

Telecom giant Airtel has made a new announcement for its prepaid users in the flood-affected state of Kerala. According to the announcement, the company is offering free ‘Talk Time’ credit for all its users for up to Rs 30 that will be approved automatically. Airtel added that this is to ensure that users can stay connected with their loved ones in this time of natural crisis.

Airtel is also offering 1GB free mobile data for all its prepaid users. This 1GB mobile data will be valid for up to seven days to ensure that customers have access to important information with the help of internet. Airtel also announced that it is extending the payment deadline for all its postpaid and broadband customers so that they can enjoy cellular and broadband services without any interruption.

The company stated that it is also deploying its VSAT service at five primary relied centers in the state to provide free calling and Wi-Fi connectivity to people in the relief centers. VSAT service is essentially a solution by Airtel that allows the company to provide cellular connectivity with the help of “multiple satellites”.

Airtel further added that its network teams and partners are working to ensure that the cellular “network is up and running” even in the situation where there is no power and fuel supply is not constant. The company has also provided a list of its flagship stores in Kottayam, Trivandrum, Ernakulam, Malappuram, Kannur, Thrissur, and Calicut for additional support.

This additional support includes the facility where citizens can charge their mobile phones and even make free calls to their family and loved ones. Here is the complete list of Airtel flagship stores in the flood-affected areas.

Vodafone also issued a statement offering similar benefits to its users in Kerala. The statement is given below:

“Kerala has been experiencing its worst downpour in over a century and the devastation that has followed has seen the loss of many lives, unprecedented damage to the state’s infrastructure and immense disruption to normal lives of citizens. Vodafone India, as a value-based organization, cares for people and believes that every life saved, every distress call connected makes an invaluable difference.

We have mobilized our vast network of employees, customers, partners, vendors, and supporters for relief work, channelizing our resources and efforts to the best of our ability, to provide help and assistance to the affected people in this hour of need.

Vodafone has initiated several measures to provide assistance to those who are affected by this ongoing crisis in Kerala. To enable our customers in Kerala to remain connected in this hour of dire need, on an immediate basis, Vodafone offers a ‘Talk Time’ credit of up to Rs. 30 to all Vodafone prepaid mobile customers. To activate this Chota credit, Vodafone prepaid customers can SMS ‘CREDIT’ to 144 or dial *130*1#. Additionally, 1 GB of mobile data is being auto credited free of cost to all Vodafone prepaid smartphone users in Kerala.

To ensure that postpaid customers have uninterrupted access to services, Vodafone has given an extension on a bill payment.”

Airtel and Vodafone were not the only telecom providers to offer free talk time and mobile data as Idea Cellular also issued a statement outlining free talk time worth Rs 10 and 1GB 4G data for a period of 7 days to its prepaid customers. The company added that customers can dial *150*150# on their prepaid numbers to get the Rs 10 emergency talk time to get in touch with their loved ones. Similar to Airtel and Vodafone, Idea has also extended the bill payment deadline for its postpaid users adding that users can visit its stores to charge their mobile phones.
