Just a few days ago, Lava listed the A97 on its official website, and today, the smartphone has been officially launched for Rs 5,949. The smartphone will be available across all retail stores and multi-brand outlets. The Lava A97 supports 4G with VoLTE and is among the cheapest smartphones in Lava s portfolio to feature VoLTE alongside the Lava X46 and Lava X11. The smartphone supports 12 Indian languages and comes with Transliterate Feature which helps users in easy translation of English language to their selected languages and vice-versa. Additionally, as a part of launch offer Lava will also give free screen replacement for one year on purchase of A97 between September 15 and November 15. Talking about the design of Lava A97, it looks like the smartphone has lent some idea from Xiaomi s Redmi 3s. While the Redmi 3s comes with a metal body while the Lava A97 might sport a polycarbonate body.

The smartphone flaunts a 5-inch FWVGA display. Under the hood is a 1.3 GHz quad-core processor paired with 1GB of RAM. There is 8GB internal memory on offer, which is further expandable up to 32GB via microSD card.
On the camera front, the smartphone sports a 5-megapixel rear and front camera which come with LED flash. Other camera features include Self-Timer, Touch to Focus, Scene Mode, ISO Setting, and Slow Motion Video. The Lava A97 also features full HD (1080p) video playback and recording capability.
The smartphone packs a 2,350mAh Li-ion battery. On the connectivity front, the smartphone offers dual-SIM, 4G, VoLTE, Bluetooth 4.0, Wi-Fi (802.11 b/g/n), micro USB port and GPS. The smartphone comes with few more features in the likes of Accelerometer, Gyro Sensor, Geomagnetic Sensor, Auto Call Recording, Flip to Mute and Google Now.
Looking at the specifications, the smartphone will face competition from the likes of the Alcatel Pixi 4, Reliance Digital LYF Flame 6 and Intex Aqua Ring. The smartphones are priced at Rs 4,999, Rs 2,999 and Rs 4,999 respectively. The LYF Flame 6 is among the cheapest smartphones available in India that supports 4G and VoLTE. The LYF Flame 6 smartphone comes with a 4-inch WVGA (800 480 pixels) display with Dragontrail glass protection. It is powered by a 1.5GHz quad-core processor paired with Mali 400 GPU, 512MB of RAM, and 4GB onboard storage that can be expanded up to 32GB via microSD card slot. On the camera front, it sports 2-megapixel front and rear cameras. The device comes with a 1,750mAh battery. The smartphone supports Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0, dual SIM and micro-USB 2.0 port. It runs on Android 5.1 Lollipop out-of-the-box.
The Intex Aqua Ring comes with a 5-inch HD (1280 720 pixels) display, a 1.3GHz MediaTek MT6580A quad-core processor, 1GB of RAM, 8GB of internal storage expandable to 32GB. The smartphone sports a 5-megapixel rear camera, a 5-megapixel front-facing camera for selfie, 2,450mAh removable battery, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS/A-GPS, a MicroUSB port, G-Sensor, Proximity Sensor, Light Sensor.
