Lava Iris X8 vs Xiaomi Redmi Note 4G vs Yu Yureka: Prices, specifications, features compared

Earlier today, Lava launched a new smartphone in its Iris series called the Iris X8. The smartphone goes on sale next week with a price tag of Rs 8,999. At this price point, the smartphone will be up against the likes of the popular Xiaomi Redmi Note 4G and the Yu Yureka. We pit the new smartphone against the other two in a specifications and features comparison to see how it fares.

The Iris X8 and the Yureka are both priced at Rs 8,999, while the Redmi Note 4G is priced slightly higher at Rs 9,999. As for availability, the Redmi Note 4G and the Yureka can be bought via weekly flash sales. The Iris X8 will go on sale via Flipkart and offline stores from next week onwards.

All the three smartphones flaunt HD (1280×720 pixels) resolution displays. The difference however is in the size, with the Iris X8 the smallest of the three with a 5-inch screen. The other two smartphones flaunt 5.5-inch screens.

The Iris X8 is powered by a 1.4GHz MediaTek MT6592M octa-core processor, while the Redmi Note 4G and the Yureka are powered by a 1.6GHz Snapdragon 400 quad-core, and 1.5GHz Snapdragon 615 octa-core processors respectively. All the three processors are paired with 2GB of RAM respectively.

The Iris X8 and the Yureka both offer 16GB internal storage, while the Redmi Note 4G offers only 8GB of storage. All the three smartphones however have a microSD card slot that can be used to expand the internal storage.

Both the Yureka and the Redmi Note 4G edge ahead with their combination of 13-megapixel rear and 5-megapixel front-facing snappers. The Iris X8, on the other hand, only features an 8-megapixel rear camera, and a 3-megapixel front-facing camera.

Lava and Yu’s smartphones run on Android KitKat wrapped under their respective UIs. The Redmi Note 4G runs on a dated 4.2 Jelly Bean wrapped under MIUI 5. All the three companies have however promised that they will be updating their respective devices to Android Lollipop.

This is where the Iris X8 loses the fight against the other two smartphones. Where it supports 3G, the Yureka and Redmi Note 4G both have LTE capabilities. While 4G has yet to percolate into all corners of the country, buying the Yureka or the Redmi Note 4G will keep it relevant for when the faster network finally arrives.

On the basis of specifications and features on offer, the Lava Iris X8 lags behind the other two smartphones. The lack of LTE connectivity especially and smaller cameras is what works against the smartphone.
