Lava Z50, the first smartphone based on the new Android Oreo (Go edition), is now available at an effective price of Rs 2,400. Lava Z50 was launched on the sidelines of Mobile World Congress last month and it was expected to be priced at Rs 5,000. However, it now comes bundled with a cashback offer of Rs 2,000 as part of ‘Mera Pehla Smartphone’ program from Airtel. Lava says the Z50 has an online market operating price (MOP) of Rs 4,400 and with Airtel cashback offer worth Rs 2,000, the effective price comes down to Rs 2,400. The Lava Z50 is a budget smartphone featuring a 4.5-inch display 2.5D curved Corning Gorilla glass protection. The smartphone is powered by a quad-core MediaTek MT6737m processor clocked at 1.1GHz coupled with 1GB RAM and 8GB of internal storage. Lava says in comparison with most standard 8GB storage phones, the Z50 has more user accessible storage of 5.5GB.
On the camera front, the Lava Z50 features a 5-megapixel camera at the front as well as rear aided by a dedicated LED flash. The camera software also includes support for features like Bokeh Mode allowing users to shoot images with shallow depth of field and blurred background.
The Lava Z50 runs Android Oreo (Go edition) which comes with applications that consume less storage. The apps include Gmail Go for mail, Assistant Go for virtual assistant, Google Go for search, Files Go for file management, Maps Go for navigation, YouTube Go for videos, Chrome and Play Store. Interestingly, the Play Store has been tweaked to show apps that are optimized for Android Oreo (Go edition).
The Lava Z50 comes with support for search in 10 major Indian languages including Hindi. It also comes with option to search for images, weather and translate from search home screen. The smartphone comes with a 2-year warranty and promises timely software updates. Lava says the Z50 comes with a special launch offer of free one-time screen replacement “in case screen breaks within 1 year from the date of purchase.” The smartphone is available in black and gold color options and is aimed primarily at first-time smartphone users.
