Decoding the image leak, the new smartwatch looks nothing like the portfolio that already exists. It appears to be an upgraded version of the original Pebble, and not the steel variant. First spotted by 9to5Mac, the smartwatch features an e-paper color display and a redesigned OS. The display is surrounded by rather large bezel, and the buttons for navigation appear to be on the side of the dial. Rumors say that the new Pebble is expected to be thinner and priced similar to the Pebble Steel smartwatch which currently retails at $199. The new watch may also have touch screen capabilities, and in-built microphones to evolve Pebble’s app portfolio. It is said to don a plastic body with aluminium edges, and have charging and data transfer pins placed at the bottom. It will also have better backlight and run on Cortex M4 processor with a 6-axis gyroscope. The updated UI is said to have new animations, look, and many new features.
Pebble currently offers the standard variant for $99 and the Pebble Steel for $199. The smartwatches work with iOS and Android, and features fitness-oriented settings like sleep tracking while also beaming notifications from smartphone and access to apps and more while offering up to seven days of battery life. Pebble also announced this month that they have managed to sell a million smartwatches since its inception in 2013.
The new smartwatch is said to be unveiled on the company’s website in a few hours from now. Stay tuned for updates.
