Xiaomi is widely believed to be working on different kind of devices besides smartphones. So it didn’t really come as a surprise, when an alleged photo of its laptop leaked yesterday.
As you can see in the above photo, the laptop closely resembles an Apple MacBook Air, and not surprisingly the company faced a lot of flak for it. Turns out the photo is actually a fake, a company’s executive confirmed to Tech in Asia.
The laptop was being referred to as the Xiaomi Notebook, and as mentioned above resembles a MacBook Air. It was said to carry a 15-inch full HD display, an Intel Haswell i7 processor and 8GB dual channel memory modules, for a total of 16GB of RAM. The computer was expected to be priced at $499 (Rs 32,000 approximately).
The publication ran reverse image searches on Google and found that there were a number of similar laptops dating as early as 2011. The laptop in the dubious image resembled a lot to Kaka i5, in fact, except the orange Xiaomi logo, it is the same laptop. When asked for authenticity, Kaylene Hong, Xiaomi’s communications manager told, “that’s false news,” to the publication.
