Lenovo was very clear from the start that you can expect the Android Oreo update only if you have the three latest launched smartphones – K8, K8 Note and K8 Plus. Back then the company did not reveal the timeline for rolling out these updates. Now, the company has.
Android 8.0 Oreo update for the three devices will start rolling out next year. But disappointingly, the roll out timeline is around June and July 2018. The Lenovo website notes that the K8 will get Oreo update in June 2018, while the K8 Plus and K8 Note will receive the same a month later in July. No other Lenovo devices will be getting the Android 8.0 update.
The timeline mentioned by Lenovo comes as a bit of surprise, since these smartphones run on stock Android OS. In other words, without much bloatware over the Android OS, it shouldn’t take Lenovo so long to roll out the update. Xiaomi for example has promised an update for the Mi A1 smartphone before the end of this year. Post updating to Oreo, Lenovo users will get feature like control on background app activity which will help you save on battery and Autofill feature that will remember your authentication details on your favorite apps. Android Oreo also brings adaptive icons, over 60 new emojis, notification dots, Picture-In-Picture (PiP) mode for multitasking, consolidated settings menu, Google Play Protect for secure app environment, and a host of other features. Android Oreo users will also be allowed to permit installation of apps via APK. Android Oreo also promises a longer battery life.
In terms of pricing, the Lenovo K8, K8 Note, and K8 Plus are priced at Rs 13,999, Rs 12,999 and Rs 10,999 respectively. While the K8 Plus is exclusively available via Flipkart, the other two are available via Amazon India.
