Lenovo is set to launch a new smartphone in the Chinese market on March 20. The smartphone is expected to be the Lenovo S5, and the company has begun teasing the upcoming smartphone through its social channels.
Lenovo CEO Chang Cheng shared an image of the upcoming smartphone, which seems to be similar to that of the K520 that appeared on TENAA few days back. The front of the device seems to sport an 18:9 display with slim bezels surrounding it. The front is also home to the selfie camera along with the earpiece. Other design elements include volume control and power button placed at the right.
The image shared by Cheng also shows the back panel of the smartphone with dual rear camera setup and rear fingerprint sensor. It seems to copy the U-shaped antenna design first seen on the iPhone 7 series. Cheng also said that the upcoming device will offer better performance than the Redmi Note 5, which clearly suggests the pricing and its competition.
The announcement comes right on the heels of a similar message from Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun who confirmed that the company will launch Redmi Note 5 with Snapdragon 636 and 6GB of RAM in China. The smartphone made its global debut at an event in India last month. Cheng quoted this and said that Lenovo’s competitor is arriving on March 20.
There is no word on specifications of the Lenovo S5 from Cheng, but since the launch date has been detailed by the company, there is a possibility that specifications and pricing will show up online in the coming days. The TENAA listing has already revealed that Lenovo S5 will feature a 5.65-inch display with a full HD+ resolution of 2160×1080 pixels. It is expected to use an octa-core chipset clocked at 2.0GHz, and coupled with 3GB or 4GB RAM and option for either 32GB or 64GB of internal storage. The smartphone will also house a slot for microSD card with support up to 128GB.
Other details include an 8-megapixel camera at the front as well as rear but it is possible that TENAA only identified the secondary sensor of the dual camera setup and not the primary one. The smartphone should debut running Android 8.0 Oreo, and pack a 3,000mAh battery.
The Lenovo S5 with model number K520 will measure 154×73.5×7.8 mm in dimensions, and it will feature connectivity features like 4G with VoLTE support, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, GPS with A-GPS, and microUSB port. The smartphone is likely to be launch in black, red and silver color options, and pack a beefy 6,000mAh battery.
