Lenovo is hosting its Tech World event tonight, where all eyes will be on the new much-rumored Moto Z smartphone. As the name suggests, this new lineup replaces the Moto X range of smartphones, and the first two devices expected to launch tonight are the Moto Z Style and the Moto Z Play. Ahead of the launch tonight, Lenovo has put out a teaser poster hinting at the upcoming smartphone’s photographic capabilities. The teaser released on Weibo shows Motorola’s Batwing logo, and the 16 ‘magnetic points’, which are likely to be used for connecting external mods. The poster also features a short Chinese poem revealing that the upcoming Moto Z’s camera will boast 10x optical zoom, better low light photography and possibly even a wide angle lens. A rough translation of this Chinese poem reads,
You can shoot the entire night sky
Can also lock a shining star
You can take the whole sea
Also chasing the rising sun
# Let the imagination #
Moto 16 magnetic points, with 10 times optical zoom
Eternal freeze every extreme beauty
#Tech World has come #
Let us work together on three-under the stars
Let us meet in blue sky
The scenery in the Pocket
Considering the poem mentions the 16 magnetic points and 10x optical zoom in the same line, it could mostly be a hint towards an external Style Mod. The upcoming Moto Z will be a semi-modular smartphone, and unlike the LG G5 will only have interchangeable back plates called Style Mods. These mods will add functionalities like an extra battery pack, set of speakers, pico projector or camera module with zoom lens.
Another teaser poster on Weibo shows the thin profile of the Moto Z smartphone. In fact, the smartphone is so thin that the camera bump is seen from the sides. The teaser also hints that the Moto Z will be available in grey, gold and what looks like rose gold colors.
In addition to their semi-modular capabilities, the Moto Z Style is expected to feature a 5.5-inch QHD AMOLED display, Snapdragon 820 chipset, 4GB of RAM, and 32GB and 64GB storage options. It will support 4G LTE connectivity, and run on Android Marshmallow out-of-the-box.
The Moto Z Play, on the other hand, is expected to be an affordable variant with specifications like 5.5-inch 1080p display, Snapdragon 620 chipset, connectivity options like 4G LTE support, and it too is expected to run on Android Marshmallow.
