Lenovo today took everyone by surprise when it announced an upgraded version of the Vibe K5 Plus along with the Vibe K5 Note. The new Vibe K5 Plus brings in slightly faster hardware such as increased RAM and a new user interface while keeping the price unchanged. With premium aluminum case and RF Shield, the smartphone will set you back by Rs 8,499. Lenovo said it looked at feedback from customers to come up with the upgrades. Lenovo s upgraded Vibe K5 Plus flaunts a 5-inch full HD (1080p) display. Under the hood, it is powered by Qualcomm s 64-bit Snapdragon 616 octa-core processor paired with 3GB of DDR3 RAM, compared to 2GB on the predecessor. With 16GB of on-board storage and USB OTG (on-the-go) support, a microSD card slot for further expansion. In the photography department, the Vibe K5 Plus sports a 13-megapixel rear camera with LED flash and a 5-megapixel selfie camera. Armed with a 2,750mAh battery, connectivity options on the smartphone include dual SIM 4G LTE, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and GPS. On the software front, the Vibe K5 Plus runs on Android 5.1 Lollipop wrapped under a new, lighter custom UI.

Lenovo has also included stereo speakers at the back with support for Dolby ATMOS. Also, support for Lenovo s TheaterMax technology and compatibility with ANTVR headset is also present. It s a better version of Google Cardboard headset that allows you to experience movies, music videos and games in widescreen virtual cinematic experience.
At its price point, the Lenovo Vibe K5 Plus is likely to compete with the Xiaomi Redmi 3s, which is due to launch later this week onAugust 3. The smartphone sports a 5-inch HD (720p) display and powered by Qualcomm s Snapdragon 430 octa-core chipset paired with 2GB of RAM + 16GB storage, or 3GB of RAM + 32GB storage.
With a 13-megapixel rear camera and 5-megapixel front facing camera, it features a 4,000mAh battery on 16GB storage variant, and 4,100mAh battery on the 32GB storage variant, just like the Redmi Note 3. Also, while the Redmi 3s Prime 4G features a fingerprint scanner at the back, the same is missing from the Vibe K5 Plus. While all details about the Redmi 3s Prime 4G are known, the only thing missing here is the pricing, which we will come to know in the next two days, when Xiaomi officially announced it.
