Earlier today, Lenovo launched the Vibe K5 smartphone in India. The successor to last year’s Lenovo A6000, the new smartphone brings in a host of improvements in terms of design, new features and also under the hood hardware. The Lenovo Vibe K5 will face fierce competition against the likes of CoolPad Note 3 Lite, Reliance Digital LYF Wind 5 and Micromax Canvas Amaze 2 among others. After comparing these smartphones based on their price specifications and features, here’s how they fare.
Price and availability: Lenovo’s Vibe K5 is priced at Rs 6,999 and will be available exclusively on Amazon India via flash sales, starting on June 22 at 2PM. Coolpad’s Note 3 Lite is also priced at Rs 6,999 and is available on Amazon India via flash sales. While the Micromax Canvas Amaze 2 is priced at Rs 7,499 and available via Flipkart, the Reliance Digital LYF Wind 5 will set you back by Rs 6,599 and can be purchased at Reliance Digital outlets across India.
Display, processor and RAM: All four smartphones feature a 5-inch HD (720p) display. The Vibe K5 and Micromax Canvas Amaze 2 are powered by Qualcomm’s 64-bit Snapdragon 415 octa-core processor paired with 2GB of RAM. Meanwhile, the CoolPad Note 3 Lite is powered by MediaTek’s MT6735 64-bit quad-core processor clocked at 1.3GHz and paired with 3GB of RAM whereas the Wind 5 is powered by MediaTek’s MTK 6735P 64-bit quad-core processor paired with 1GB of RAM.
Storage: The Vibe K5 and the Note 3 Lite are equipped with 16GB of onboard storage. While the Wind 5 comes with 8GB of internal storage, the Canvas Amaze 2 is equipped with 32GB of onboard storage. All four smartphones also support expandable storage option via microSD card.
Cameras: The Vibe K5, Note 3 Lite and Canvas Amaze 2 sports a 13-megapixel rear camera with LED flash, whereas the Wind 5 sports an 8-megapixel rear camera with LED flash. Up front, all smartphones are equipped with 5-megapixel selfie camera.
Battery: The Vibe K5 is armed with a 2,750mAh battery, the Canvas Amaze 2 and Note 3 Lite are armed with 2,500mAh batteries, whereas the Wind 5 is equipped with a 2,000mAh battery.
Connectivity: On the connectivity front, all smartphones feature dual-SIM card slots, 4G connectivity, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and GPS. One of the advantages of the LYF Wind 5 over other smartphones is the VoLTE support for HD voice calling, however it is limited to Reliance Jio network only, so we won’t consider it to be a big deal especially with the specifications.
Operating System: The Canvas Amaze 2 and Wind 5 run on Android 5 Lollipop, Note 3 Lite runs on Android 5.1 Lollipop with a layer of CoolUI 6.0 running atop, whereas the Vibe K5 runs on Android Lollipop 5.1 wrapped under Vibe UI.
Other features: While Lenovo has once again worked on the audio chops, and included twin stereo speakers with Dolby Atmos audio support, the Note 3 Lite is one of the first smartphones under Rs 7,000 range to feature a fingerprint scanner.
At this price point, it is a close call between the Lenovo Vibe K5, Coolpad Note 3 Lite and the Micromax Canvas Amaze 2. On paper, the Coolpad Note 3 Lite offers higher RAM (3GB) as well as a fingerprint sensor. The Micromax Canvas Amaze 2, meanwhile offers similar hardware with double internal storage at 32GB. The Lenovo Vibe K5, on the other hand, offers better speakers.
