Smartphone manufacturers are currently looking at new ways to shave off bezels on their smartphones in order to achieve a high screen-to-body ratio that no other competition can match. While using a notch display has helped in increasing that the number, the clear winners are of course the Vivo NEX and Oppo Find X, which are equipped with pop-up camera modules. Their innovative design helps them to save that much more space and further enables them to feature a screens-to-body ratio much higher than 90 percent.
The same innovation is now being used by Lenovo in what seems to its upcoming flagship smartphone, dubbed as the Lenovo Z5 Pro. However, instead of using an electronic motor, the smartphone is said to come with a simple slider mechanism to reveal the front camera.
The smartphone was first teased by Lenovo’s Vice President Chang Cheng, but now an alleged video of the smartphone has been spotted on Weibo (via MySmartPrice), which gives us some idea about its design.
The 11-second video showcases the smartphone to come with a tall design, with thin bezels around the screen and a slim chin at the bottom. Sliding up the back of the smartphone further reveals the front camera. It also looks like the earpiece of the smartphone will be placed on slider itself. This means that the user will have to use the mechanism every time they have to pick up a call, somewhat like the older Nokia slider phones. Not just that, the smartphone can also be seen using an in-display fingerprint sensor for authentication.

While the specifications of the Lenovo Z5 Pro are still unknown, being a sibling to the original Lenovo Z5 suggests the device to come with mid-range hardware. It could very well feature the new Snapdragon 710 SoC, which will also serve as sizable upgrade over the Lenovo Z5. That said, Lenovo could surprise us by equipping it with premium hardware a well. At this point though, Lenovo’s intentions are still unknown. This also includes its pricing and a launch timeline. We’ll just have to wait for more rumors to surface around it.
