The Lenovo Z5, which is popularly referred to as the truly bezel-less flagship smartphone is expected to launch on June 5. Earlier, rumors indicated that the smartphone will be launched on June 14, but the company VP Chang Cheng confirmed the launch details on Weibo, China’s micro-blogging platform. The Lenovo Z5 launch marks the rebirth of company’s Z-series which offered a cleaner and near stock Android experience compared to standard Lenovo smartphones running Android.
Cheng has been teasing the smartphone on Weibo for quite sometime now. The smartphone is widely expected to be the closest thing we can get to a truly bezel-less smartphone. The renders of the device shared by Cheng in the past show no bezels surrounding the display. Interestingly, Lenovo is also not including a notch similar to one seen on other Android smartphones and there is no bottom chin either. The smartphone seems to have erased all the bezels for an all-display look at the front of the device.
Lenovo is claiming that the Z5 will offer a screen-to-body ratio higher than 95 percent when it becomes official next month. It is also teasing that Lenovo Z5 will arrive with a whopping 4TB of internal storage. In comparison, most smartphones in the market top at 256GB of internal storage. If Cheng is to be believed, then Lenovo Z5 is promising to offer 16 times the conventional storage capacity. It is likely that Lenovo Z5 will come with an expandable storage slot and support cards up to 2TB to offer such a massive storage option. Considering Smartisan Nut R1 already offers 1TB of internal storage, the Lenovo Z5 might come with 2TB internal storage and support additional storage via SD card slot.
In terms of specifications, the Lenovo Z5 is expected to be powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 SoC coupled with either 6GB or 8GB of RAM. However, there is no clarity on the final specifications of the smartphone. It is also not clear whether the Z5 will house a front-facing camera or will do away with it altogether. The leaked renders have no visible sign of camera, microphone or other sensors at the front.

While Cheng has focused mostly on the bezel-less design of the smartphones with his social posts, he is also claiming that Z5 will offer 30 minutes of talk-time with 0 percent charge. Not sure, if the company is pulling some physics-defying technology here. He has also shared camera samples shot with the Z5, which look promising but not necessarily the best in the business. Meanwhile, Vivo is the only other brand which has shown a true bezel-less smartphone with its Apex concept phone. We will have to wait till the official launch to understand how ground-breaking Lenovo’s Z5 will be in a market that seems to be mainly working around generic smartphone design.
