The technology behind the hoverboard relies on magnets to work against gravity for lifting it above the ground. For the demonstration, the company had to create a custom-crafted park with magnetic metal surface for the hoverboard to work. The video shows off a professional skateboarder, Ross McGouran trying to master the basic moves. In the video, you ll also notice steam coming off from the sides. It s the liquid nitrogen at work for cooling the magnets. The skateboard is roughly some 3-inches off the ground and with the rider, it compresses a bit bearing the weight. Now that we have a working prototype, it still has a set of limitations attached to it. For instance, the hoverboard won t work on normal surfaces. It also requires liquid nitrogen to be filled in every 10 minutes to keep going.
It s a work in progress, with no details about the pricing and availability at the moment. While the concept is futuristic and still in its nascent stage, it does need a lot of fine tuning and refinements to be done before the public release. As always, we ll keep an eye on the how things shape up and keep our readers posted about the developments as an when they happen.
